When we first arrived in Thailand, I (Rob) expected everyone to engage with the Bible the same way I did—alone, in a quiet room, with a paper book. But for the Thai people, solitary reading felt like pulling teeth.
We realized that to end Bible poverty here, we didn't just need to provide a book; we needed to provide a communal encounter.
I spent years judging what I thought was a lack of spiritual discipline in my Thai friends, only to realize that God had created them to learn and grow differently. They are a communal people who thrive on shared experiences.
This realization birthed a unique strategy for the Thai SourceView Bible: we didn't just print the text in four colors; we printed four different colored covers.
When we distribute these Bibles, we give a red one to one person and tell them, "Your neighbor has the green one, and the person across the street has the blue one. You have to get together to see the whole set." To our joy, they actually did it—adults in restaurants and kids in schools began reading the Word out loud together.

Every distribution is accompanied by a one-minute video on our phones that explains the format: gather together, choose a color, read out loud, and discuss the questions on the back. This "instructions for life" approach has turned Bible reading into a viral movement.
A friend in Bangkok sat at a street table and began reading the SourceView Bible out loud. What started as a 20-minute plan turned into three hours of reading as homeless people and prostitutes joined in, cycling through the four speaking parts. That group became a home church.
A young girl named Fang received a book from a visiting team. She read it, believed in Jesus, and went searching for other believers. We only met her when she stood up in our church to be baptized, sharing how that one book changed her life. Within a year, she was out distributing Bibles to others.
Ending Bible poverty in Thailand is about more than logistics; it's about facilitating Jesus encounters at every door.
