God says, “Go”, but how can I without a passport?
Many of you have journeyed with us for years, following our adventure of walking with God. You’ve prayed with and for us. You’ve supported us financially. You’ve cheered with us over victories and you’ve carried our burdens in your hearts. The last 6 years have been troublesome for our family with the decline of Venezuela as a nation. All hope was lost to ever get a passport from her home nation again.
6 weeks ago Cy’s brother mentioned that he had heard rumors that the Venezuelan embassy in Ottawa was processing passports. We prayed and decided to attempt to get Cy a new passport. Hearing reports of people waiting years for an appointment at the embassy, we didn’t carry much hope. But we do the possible and God does the impossible. After several failed attempts to request an appointment online, we were successful and Cy was given the appointment for April 12th (miracle #1).
The way it’s done in Ottawa is that those who have an appointment for the day are served in the order they arrive at the embassy. The online system regularly breaks down because of Venezuela’s electricity outages, so not everyone is attended to, even though they have an appointment. Therefore, the closer you are to the front of the line, the more chance you have of processing a passport application. The queue started at 12:30am in the morning. However, when we arrived at 3:30am, Cy ended up second in line (miracle #2). We spent the night in the street with the other Venezuelans doing the possible for them and their families to get passports. They also had been waiting for years for this opportunity.
The system didn’t break down that day and Cy was successful in processing her passport application (miracle #3). Within days the Venezuelan government processed Cy’s application and printed her passport (miracle #4). On May 2nd, a DHL delivery man showed up at our door with her new passport in hand (miracle #5)!
Why is this so important?
- Cy has regularly been invited to teach in Bible schools around the world: the USA
, Vietnam 
, the Philippines 
, Mexico 
, and Colombia 
. Without a passport, she has had to decline these invitations. - Cy hasn’t seen her parents and sister for over 6 years. None of her family members have passports. At some point, we’d like to visit them again.
- God has called us to be an international family that serves the nations.
Our Invitation and Yours
Both of us have been invited to teach in a Bible school in Medellin, Colombia in Spanish for a week of May 16-20, 2022 (less than 2 weeks away). We had been waiting to see if she would miraculously get a new passport in order to accept this invitation. And now we can!
The plan is to teach a week in Medellin and then help the EBPN ministry in Cartagena distribute Bibles for a few days. Colombia is one of the countries that we are partnering with to use the Share Bibles App for tracking Bible distribution.
Now we want to extend the invitation to you to partner with us to see this become reality. We are trusting God for the travel expenses to go to Colombia together. We’ve calculated that we need $4,500 CAD to get there and back.
God says, “Go”. He has provided the passport. Now we trust in Him to provide what we need to go.
