And the School of Biblical Studies starts in…

Parlez-vous français ?

From January until March both of us studied French in a part-time course at YWAM Dunham. There were three of us in the class, each with different levels of French, but we all journeyed together. Let’s just say that we’re coming along. 😉😁

Rob’s Master’s degree

Rob has been working on a master’s degree in Global Pioneering Leadership since January 2021. He will be finished this coming December 2022. There are 5 modules of learning and each module has an “intensive”, which is a 2-week intense training on location. This past February the cohort of candidates gathered in Cape Town, South Africa. The focus of this module was innovation and pioneering.

The speakers in this intensive were from or working in Africa. One of our teachers shared his testimony of pioneering in Nigeria. He has been kidnapped five times, held at gunpoint many more times, but has led over 3,000 terrorist soldiers through YWAM’s Discipleship Training School and hundreds of them have become missionaries! What a privilege to learn from people like this!

Teaching, teaching, and more teaching

We’ve been busy with Bible teaching as well. It’s what we’re called and empowered to do. Cy and I lead the weekly community Bible studies at the YWAM base. We also teach for YWAM courses locally and abroad. Cy taught God-led character development in the Ministry Development School (MDS: a 2-year staff training course). We both taught in the Discipleship Training School (DTS) this quarter focusing on how knowing God through the Bible shapes our worldview.

Rob made a trip to YWAM Potchefstroom, South Africa to teach in a Discipleship Bible School (DBS). There were about 30 students from around the world. He taught about the time period of the kings, focusing on the books of 1&2 Kings and 1&2 Chronicles.

We have more Bible teaching coming up too. Rob with also be teaching about The Great Commission in the MDS. Cy will be teaching about the Pentateuch through zoom in a Bible Core Course (BCC) in Colombia 🇨🇴 this May.

Our 1st School of Biblical Studies

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be starting our first School of Biblical Studies (SBS) in YWAM Dunham this coming September 2022. It’s a 9-month school that leads students through an inductive study of each of the 66 books of the Bible. This school will be in French and English.

One new vision that we have for this school is to developa hybrid classroom. What that means is a learning environment that includes a mix of students who are present in the physical classroom and also participants joining the class virtually. The first phase is to run the first school, recording all the classroom activities and publishing them online. We’ll send pictures once we get it all setup 😉 .

A Miracle Passport?

A few weeks ago we found out that the Venezuelan embassies in Mexico and Canada have started issuing passports again. This would be the first time in years that they are processing passport applications. We felt that we needed to attempt to get Cy a new passport because her previous one expired more than a year ago. We made a trip to Ottawa last week and God made a way for Cy to present her documentation and submit her biometrics for a new passport. We’re currently waiting for it to be processed in Venezuela.God-willing we could receive a new passport for Cy in 1-2 months. We welcome your prayers for this.

Prayer Requests:

  • Anointing, wisdom & love through teaching: we know that if we are to be teachers in the kingdom of God, we need to teach WITH God. Pray that our dependence upon the Holy Spirit would be fruitful and powerfully transformative for those we teach.
  • A new passport for Cy: we’ve done our part, now we are waiting for the government of Venezuela to do their part. Pray that it goes forward without any hiccups or delays.
  • Learning French: we continue to press on towards learning French and it requires prayer (just like the other languages that we learned). Some things are easy and some things definitely aren’t.
  • School of Biblical Studies (SBS): we currently have 4 confirmed students and a few that are in the inquiry/application process. Pray that we’d get the right students for this school. Pray for more staff help!
  • Rob’s Master’s Degree: Rob is entering the thesis portion of the course and it requires a lot of work. Pray also for the finances to finish off the course (approximately $6,000 USD / $7,600 CAD).
